The Dutch Datacenter Association (DDA) today announces the publication of a factsheet concerning current and upcoming Dutch and EU data and privacy regulations. With this factsheet, which was composed in close collaboration with legal advice agency ICTRecht (Legal ICT), DDA aims to offer a short but comprehensive overview of privacy regulations overseas companies that store or distribute their data from Dutch data centres need to comply to.
Data has quickly become one of the most valuable assets of many companies and organisations. Privacy and the protection of data is a pivotal concern for businesses around the globe. Given the recent developments concerning privacy regulation, most importantly the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will be effective 25th of may 2018, the DDA saw an urgency to inform stakeholders about the potential consequences.
Stijn Grove, managing director of the DDA: “A rapidly growing amount of data is stored within Dutch borders and distributed through the Netherlands to Europe and beyond. Dutch data centres are renowned for their reliability, very thorough privacy and data integrity safeguards and dedication to privacy related certification and compliancy. In addition, the broader Dutch digital infrastructure is well suited to serve as Digital Gateway to Europe. These two assets combined, as well as the favorable geographical position of the Netherlands in Europe, make our country a very popular place to distribute data from. As a part of the EU Single Digital Market, the Netherlands is ideal for the distribution of data and digital services to other European countries. ”
As a result, companies large and small choose the Netherlands to distribute their digital services to Europe. Since they have to comply to Dutch and EU privacy and data legislation and regulations, it is paramount they are well informed concerning this topic. In fact, privacy regulation compliancy will increasingly become an value proposition for any company that handles privacy sensitive data.
